Is it tough for you to find a beach to hang out on in Malibu? You're not alone.
In Malibu, there are 27 miles of gorgeous beaches -- making up a quarter of all LA County beach front, according to the video above.
So then why is it so difficult to find some sand to plop down on? Partially because of sneaky practices by Malibu locals, according to Jenny Price -- a writer, artist and environmental historian who's been covering the beaches for years.
Sometimes access to a beach is hidden or closed if you're not entering through one of the private developments along the beach, notes Price. Other times, residents put up fake "No Parking" or misleading "Private Beach" signs. In the video above, Price even shows an example of a fake driveway (that you may be able to park in front of) and an orange cone blocking a public parking space.
But before you stage a revolt against the millionaires' homes, check out the app Our Malibu Beaches. It shows you where each beach's public access point is, helps you park and even helps you find the best dry spot for your towel on individual beaches.
The makers of the app want to make it free all summer. They also want to expand it from just the iPhone to the Android as well. That's where their Kickstarter campaign comes in, which runs until the end of May.
