Scientist in Costa Rica discovers new species of glass frog Brian Kubicki discovers the Hyalinobatrachium dianae glass frog species in Costa Rica's Talamanca mountains

A scientist in Costa Rica says the discovery of a new species of glass frog is an indication of a healthy eco-system in the country's southern Talamanca mountains.
Brian Kubicki said the tiny, semi-translucent glass-frog specimen, which he named Hyalinobatrachium dianae, is very delicate and its presence "is a good indicator of the general health of the eco-system."

Glass frogs are only found in certain parts of Central and South America and are characterised by skin so translucent that their organs are visible.
Mr Kubicki said that the new species, of which six specimens have been found so far, was clearly different due to its colouring, skin texture and the distinctive sound of its call.
