beautiful, inspirational surfing..
i mentioned to Rt at Warbles a while back that for better or worse..when you really look at whats happening in the so called world of surfing..particularly and specifically the stunning concept of breaking out of the iron grip of the thruster monoculture, and see how it's now not just ok..but damn near required you ride and endorse just about any type of surfcraft..the older the concept the better..then Mr. Hynd may well be the most influential surfer of our time, bar none.
Where this leads I don't know..
a personal appreciation of the past and experiencing those artifacts in the ocean today is,I have always thought , a very good thing.
rounds out the experience...and I hope, makes for a better person.
the re-writing of history..as a marketing hook, and in the process setting up shaky paradigmns, is something else.
check Dereks latest personal surfing journey at safetosea or the kurangabaa blogs.
thanks.
i do know what you mean about the marketing aspect as well.
people will exploit anything given the chance.
ya see it big time right now.
i saw the most ridiculous example of a board on craigslist.
this guy was selling a used KG retro fish for 1300.00 and claimed it's value by
having curren ride it once as endorsement.
That was a decent day at El Porto!
that is surfing, pure, inspired by imagination, and beautiful. hynd and russ short, along with bk and terry fitz, are among the most stylish surfers ever. we are lucky to be able to see them ride waves.
