A Woman Left Lonely
"A Woman Left Lonely" (Spooner Oldam/Dan Penn) is a great song covered by many, including, Janis Joplin, my favorite Charlie Rich and now Cat Power.
On the new Cat Power Lp "Jukebox" Chan Marshall does an outstanding job of this(ck. podcast) and many others including "Silver Stallion"(Highwaymen) on this double Lp.
Yesterday on KCRW she was on live with the new band, Judah Bauer(Blues Explosion), Jim White(Dirty Three) and others. The one thing I regret is that she's no longer playing an instrument while singing. This, to me, is a mistake as her style in it's glory is helped by the influence of double duty.(Keeps her vocal ryhthm's more syncopated)
Still a great performance yesterday in the radio studio which can be watched and listened to here.
Note;(if yer a big fan you can also boot yer own audio copy of that show by running out of the computer and into any recording device)
(Note; she's not to hard on the eyes also, eh?)
I've got no gripes with the production but in the future I hope she considers using T-Bone Burnett for some 'controlled chaos' and grit.
