Workin' Together

If you've not been to the blog Safe To Sea then your really missing the evolution of a special project/film that is a fresh breath of, well, let's say.... air, for now.(sorry Mick...)
This is Via; Great Southern Communications;
MUSICA SURFICA is a documentary which involves a unique gathering of classical musicians and surfers, with a purpose to opening minds to new ideas by demonstrating the benefits of taking risks in their art.
Shot on King Island in Southern Australia, the documentary follows one man’s creative journey, Richard Tognetti, leading violinist and Artistic Director of the Australian Chamber Orchestra, as he seeks new inspiration from traditional and classical music.
He teams up with Derek Hynd, one of the world’s most influential surfers, who challenges him (and 2 time world champion, Tom Carroll, under 18 World No 2 Heath Joske and others) to ride an un-finned surfboard, which demands fresh thinking, or ancient methods, to keep control.(Trailer on link)

Mick has been documenting it from the start and is nearing completion, I believe.
Although this latest post of getting new footage of Derrick Hynde at J Bay is just
classic.

"We received footage today, shot last week, of Derek H at J-Bay on a variety of boards. Astounding stuff. Any of those guys on the Swaylocks forums who say drive only comes from the fin will sit back a foot or two when they see this stuff. Picture a six foot plus Supertubes wave, DH on a 4'6", doing a carving, deep, long bottom turn, under the lip 360, then driving into a looooong barrel, and making it. Derek told me one of the longstanding locals called it the best wave ridden in the past 5 years. Unfortunately that particular one we can't use as the tripod shook terribly at the worst possible moment, but there were other equally wonderful shots."

fine tuned for bottom turns?
